Qik Node
A no-hassle web server that runs on basically anything
Not sure what a web server is, read why a web server is like a restaurant.
Web Server for Anyone
Qik Node is a web server that runs on pretty much any connected device you have laying around. It can run on mobile devices, laptops, traditional servers, or even in a web browser on that random device you have. The Qik project's mission is to make self-hosting quick and easy, and Qik Node is as the center of that; a key part of making self-hosting cheap and easy, is to make it likely that you already have everything you need laying around.
Grab an old phone or laptop, download Qik Node, and you're up in running in minutes.
Tech Stuff
Qik Node is designed to not just be a web server, but a scalable and easily configurable foundation for web services. Multi-threading is handled by default, and database storage is built-in or can be remote hosted like a traditional server setup. Services can be selected, installed, and auto-updated from our repo, or anyone else's (including your own!). This website uses the Qik CMS and Static file services, and there are others like Bluetooth and SMS, which take advantage of phone hardware. With Qik Node, IoT gets a lot simpler.
Sorry, You Have to Wait
Although we see big potential for Qik Node, it's not ready for open contribution yet. Using it to power our website is a first step to iron out the wrinkles, then FTP, SMTP, and Git implementations will be added. There's no point in a self-hosted solution, if it can't do all the things you need it to do. Once that first step has passed, we'll move onto Beta deployment.
